Firefighters stop spread of fast-moving brush fire in Ladera Ranch

Firefighters halted the spread of a small brush fire that burned quickly through grass in Ladera Ranch on Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

Though the fire, which charred three to five acres, ignited in a hilly area near many homes, no structures were threatened throughout the incident, said Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Sean Doran, spokesperson for the department.

Authorities received a call about the vegetation fire around 4:09 p.m. burning between O’Neil Drive and the Arroyo Trabuco Golf Course, Doran said. Flames burned through “light flashy fuels,” propelling the blaze forward at a fast rate. Ground and air crews, about 100 firefighters, aggressively attacked the fire and stopped its forward progress by 5:11 p.m.

“Our objective for this was to hit it early and keep it small, and there was a success,” Doran said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.

Our strong initial attack has already stopped the forward progress. That is the goal- hit it hard to keep the fires as small as possible and protect our community. Investigators are on scene. Acreage will be updated as soon as possible. pic.twitter.com/41S0rnViP9
